"Since I was in Grade 10, I had a dream of pursuing a career in Accounting. I ended up becoming a petrol attendant because I took a gap year, mainly because I lacked information on how to apply to university. I come from a rural area where there's a scarcity of such information”, Fakude adds.
Fakude's path was not without obstacles. Balancing his studies with financial limitations and family responsibilities demanded perseverance. However, he never allowed setbacks to dampen his spirits. With each challenge he encountered, Fakude found the inner strength to soar above and keep pushing forward, fueled by his adamant determination to succeed.
“My experience as a petrol attendant not only shaped my perspective but also played a significant role in my decision to pursue a career in Accounting. Although I had harbored the dream since my days in Grade 10, working at the petrol station further fueled my ambition” Fakude adds. Witnessing successful individuals driving in their fancy cars on a daily basis inspired Fakude deeply. “It motivated me to set my sights on attending university the following year, believing that education would pave the way for a similar level of achievement and prosperity in my own life”, he concludes.
Fakude's decision to pursue his accounting degree at the North-West University Vanderbijlpark campus was a pivotal one. The university's esteemed reputation for academic excellence and its commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals perfectly aligned with Fakude's aspirations.
Here, he found an empowering environment, supportive faculty, and a network of like-minded peers who pushed him to reach new heights. Fakude also joined the NWU Vanderbijlpark football team. "I contributed a lot to NWU Vanderbijlpark Football, and it has greatly sharpened me as an individual. As a referee, I learned new things and, most importantly, my communication circle expanded."
The day Fakude received his degree, it was a testament to his perseverance and the culmination of years of dedication. With his family by his side, he stood tall, a symbol of triumph over adversity. His achievement not only brought immense pride to his loved ones but also served as an inspiration to his community, proving that dreams can indeed be turned into reality.
