Think sport and your mind probably jumps to football, athletics or rugby, right? But at North-West University, sport wears glitter, moves to a beat, and knows how to dip, spin and win. Yes. NWU has Dance Sport. Not just for fun. Not just for vibes.
It’s an official, competitive sport. And trust us, it’s as intense, passionate, and rewarding as any tournament you’ve ever watched.
At NWU, Dance sport isn't just a club. It’s a fully recognised competitive sporting code, with dedicated coaches, structured training, and regular participation in USSA tournaments, inter-varsity competitions, and national dance events.
And get this! NWU Dance sport dancers don’t just compete, they dominate. The team has brought home trophies, medals, and a reputation for excellence that spins circles around the competition.
You see the glitter, the grace, the smiles. What you don’t see are the early morning rehearsals, the sweaty practice sessions, the bruised toes, and the insane core strength needed to hold a pose mid-spin. These dance athletes train just like any other athlete, with dedication, discipline, and a dash of drama!
What makes NWU Dance Sport special isn’t just the medals. It’s the community. Students from all backgrounds, faculties, and campuses come together to move, grow, and celebrate one another on and off the floor. From first-years learning their first step to seasoned dancers representing NWU on national stages, everyone has a place here.
Next time someone says “dancing isn’t a sport,” invite them to watch an NWU Dance Sport performance.
Better yet, bring them to training.
Because here at NWU, we know: Real athletes wear dancing shoes.
And we don’t just play the sport. We dance it.
