You’ve been running all year. Maybe it’s time to pause and realise just how far you’ve come.
Remember January?
The new notebooks. The fresh timetable. The ambitious plans to stay ahead of your readings this time. The “this year I’m going to manage my time properly” promise.
And then… life happened.
Assignments happened. Tests happened. Group projects happened. Deadlines started appearing from every direction. Some weeks felt like a blur of lectures, laptops, coffee and trying to remember whether you had actually eaten lunch. Yet here you are! Still going, still showing up, still pushing.
But when was the last time you stopped?
Not stopping because the semester is over or because everything is finished. Just stopping for a moment to breathe.
Look how far you’ve come! Remind them that the person who started the year isn't necessarily the person standing here now. They've learnt, adapted, survived difficult weeks and probably discovered strengths they didn't know they had.
Celebrate the little wins! Passing that test. Finally understanding something that made zero sense. Making a friend. Asking for help. Getting through a particularly rough week. Showing up when they really didn't feel like it.
You don't have to earn rest! Sometimes you can take an afternoon off, go for a walk, listen to music, sit outside, grab something nice to eat or call home.
There is still a life outside the deadline. Each NWU campus is known for the breathtaking sunsets and that first bite of a meal after a long day. Come on!
Keep going, but don't forget to live!
So, before you rush off to the next deadline, take a moment, look around, take a breath, call your friend, or sit under a tree, watch the sunset, laugh a little louder and get yourself something delicious. Take the scenic route back to your residence. Do absolutely nothing for a few minutes. Stop and smell the roses.
Because somewhere between the deadlines, the late nights and the “I can't do this anymore” moments, you've made it further than you think.
And we're proud of you for still showing up. Keep going, you've got this!
