At North-West University, your journey doesn’t just begin in the classroom – it starts the moment you find a space where you feel welcome, supported, and at home. That’s why our residences are more than just places to sleep. They’re communities where friendships are formed, stories are shared, and futures are shaped.
So whether you’re wondering when to apply, how to choose your residence, or what happens next, we’ve gathered everything you need to know in one place, because home should never be a mystery.
Why choose NWU residences?
NWU residences are about belonging. Here’s what you can expect when you find your fit:
- A community of support: You’ll be surrounded by people who want to see you succeed – from your first day to your graduation day.
- A family of friends: Residences are where lifelong friendships are born. Think late-night chats, shared laughs, and support that goes beyond the books.
- Unique vibes, shared purpose: Every residence has its own traditions and energy – but all of them offer a strong sense of belonging.
- Right where you need to be: With dining halls and academic buildings just minutes away, everything you need is within easy reach.
When and how do I apply for residence?
You’ll be able to apply for residence during your online application to study at NWU. On the “Additional Information” screen, you’ll see the question:
“Interested in NWU residence placement?”
Select “Yes” – and just like that, your residence application begins.
- You do not need to submit a separate residence application.
When can I choose my top three residences?
Once you receive and accept your conditional offer to study at NWU, you’ll be able to select your top three residence preferences – for the campus where your offer was made.
When can I apply?
Make sure you apply as early as possible – residence applications close on 31 August 2025. Please note that placement is competitive and not guaranteed, so the earlier, the better!
When will I receive feedback?
After you’ve accepted your conditional offer, your residence application will be reviewed. Feedback will follow once the Residence Department has processed and approved your application.
What happens after my residence application is approved?
Once you receive confirmation via email that your residence application has been approved, you must:
- If you are a cash-paying student: proceed to pay the confirmation deposit (link provided in the confirmation email); or
- If you applied for NSFAS or a similar bursary: upload proof of your bursary application, or similar confirmation of funding.
