You’ve hit “submit” on your North-West University (NWU) application. If you’ve been refreshing your inbox or logging into your application profile every other day (don’t worry – we’ve all been there), you’re not alone.

Then the first notification arrives, and you ask yourself: What does my application status mean?

Here’s a quick walk-through of the different NWU application statuses and what each one means.

Application Started:

You’ve started your application but haven’t submitted it yet. This is a common stumbling block. Many applicants believe that reaching the final screen means it’s done – but unless you hit submit, your application won’t be evaluated.

Sometimes, you leave a few fields blank or miss a step like uploading your documents. Whatever the case, make sure you check your status. If it still shows “Application Started,” return to your application, complete it, and submit it.

Remember: no selection can happen until your application is submitted. Be sure to check your programme-specific deadline on the NWU website.

Application Submitted:

You’ve submitted your application successfully – well done! That means NWU has received it, and your two study choices are now ready for review. This is where the behind-the-scenes magic begins, and the review process gets underway.

Application Verified:

Our team has reviewed and verified your documents. Now, your application is being sent to the relevant selection committee. Think of it as your application stepping into the interview room – ready to show what you’ve got.

Conditional Offer:

You’re almost there! This means NWU has made you a conditional offer because you’ve met most of the admission requirements, but a few things still need to be finalised – like your final matric results or a missing document. You’ll need to respond by either accepting or declining the offer.

Conditional Offer Accepted:

You’ve accepted your conditional offer – great news! You’re officially on track, pending the outstanding requirements.

Conditional Offer Declined:

You’ve decided not to go ahead with your conditional offer. That’s okay – plans can change. Just know that your application for this academic year is now closed.

Final Offer:

Cue the happy dance! You’ve met all the academic requirements, and NWU has issued your final offer. You’ve officially been offered a place to join the NWU family. Now it’s your choice to accept or decline.

Final Offer Accepted:

You’ve accepted your final offer – welcome to NWU! Your status will now show “Registration Ready”, and you’ll gain access to the Student Portal during the registration period.

Final Offer Declined:

You’ve chosen not to accept your place at NWU for this year. Your application is now closed, and we wish you all the best for the journey ahead.

Other Statuses

Unsuccessful:

We know this one’s hard to receive. Unfortunately, your application wasn’t successful this time. But this doesn’t mean the end of your academic journey. Many students come back stronger and more determined the following year. Keep going – your time will come.

Registration Ready:

This is it! You’re fully admitted and ready to register! Log into the Student Portal and take the final step towards becoming an NWU Eagle.
