How To Submit Upgraded Your Matric Results to NWU?

You’ve done the hard part. You studied late, sacrificed weekends, pushed through the doubts, and now you finally have those upgraded matric results in hand– results that show what you’re capable of.

Now comes the next step: making sure North-West University (NWU) receives those results and uses them correctly when reviewing your application. Let’s walk through it together.

Why does this matter?

NWU pulls matric results from the Department of Basic Education. If you’ve only upgraded certain subjects, the system might only pull in those upgraded marks – not your full academic record. That could lead to your application being flagged as incomplete, or worse, incorrectly rejected. Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen.

1: Gather Both Result Statements

There are two possible situations here:

If you have a combined results certificate from Umalusi:

  • That’s great! It shows both your original and upgraded subjects in one document. Upload this directly to your application profile under “Supporting Documents.”

If you have two separate results statements:

One shows your original matric marks, and the other your upgraded subjects. You’ll need to upload both documents to your application profile.

2: Upload your results to the application portal

When you apply (or log in to update your application), look out for the “Results” or “Academic Documents” section.

Upload:

  • Your combined results OR
  • Both your original and upgraded statements
  • Make sure the files are clear and in an accepted format (PDF or JPEG works best).

3: Already submitted your application?

If you’ve already hit the “Submit” button, send an email with your attached results to: upgrade@nwu.ac.za. To ensure we link your results to your application accurately, please include your application number and your first study choice, as indicated on the application portal, in the subject line. For example Subject: APP2026-12345 – BSc in Computer Science.

Timing is important

Submit and re-apply when you have already upgraded your results, not while you are in the process.

Choosing to upgrade your matric isn’t easy – but it’s courageous. It’s you saying: “I want better for myself.” And at NWU, we see that. We respect that, and we want to help make it count.

If anything still feels confusing, reach out. We’re here, cheering you on every step of the way.
