Types Of Bursaries Available At NWU

Bursaries are financial awards granted to students based on various criteria, including academic merit, financial need, or specific talents.

At NWU, we offer a range of bursaries to support our diverse student body, ensuring that vibrant students thrive and relevant graduates are produced.

Some of these include:

#1 Merit Bursaries

These are awarded to full-time first-year, second-year, or third-year students who have demonstrated outstanding academic performance.

First-year students who have achieved an average of 75% or higher in their matric exams are eligible for 25-100% off of their first-year fees. This price reduction will be automatically deducted when you submit your university application.

Leadership, Arts & Culture and Sporting bursaries are also available to qualifying students.

#2 Special Bursaries

Family discount bursaries provide a small reduction in tuition fees. They are available to students with siblings attending the university.

Support bursaries are offered to students with physical disabilities or persons coming from orphanages or the foster care system.

#3 National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS)

NSFAS is a government-funded program aimed at assisting students who have academic potential but lack the necessary funds to study.

Is NSFAS a bursary or a loan? This depends on your family’s current financial situation.
