You have finished the registration process, you have posed for the picture that will haunt you until graduation, and now you’re holding the most valuable and important campus essential in your hands – your student card, your campus lifeline for the next few years.
You might ask why this card is so important. Well, for starters it will serve as your on-campus identification. It also happens to be a legit way to declare that you are now an official member of the #MyNWU family. Simply put, this will be your NWU ID card.
On top of being a flashy NWU ID badge, your student card will also be required for entry at:
- main gates
- turnstiles
- faculty buildings
- residences (only registered residents of the hostel)
For Potch students:
- main gates
- turnstiles
- faculty buildings
- residences (only registered residents of the hostel)
- NWU Potch Gym
- dining halls and kiosks
- selected retailers in town
- IvyLine print shop
Since your student card will be used to take attendance in class and exam halls, it would be wise to adopt the mantra: “No student card, no access”.
Another huge perk of having this rite of passage is a student discount. You heard it – you can get crazy discount rates at certain attractions around the globe. Simply flash this baby at those overpriced tourist attractions and fancy restaurants to prove that you are a student, and a few digits will instantly be knocked off your bill. Remember, this is only valid in selected countries and stores, so keep an eye out for information about student discounts before and during your trip.
What happens if this important rite of passage is stolen or lost, you may ask? First, contact Protection Services on your campus to immediately have your student card deactivated. You then need to visit the Security Services’ Student Card division to have a new card made. This new card does come at a price, so be sure to hold on to the one you receive at registration.
