Which Universities Are Open for Applications 2024?

Although most universities' applications for 2024 are now closed, some have already revealed when they'll be opening their 2025 applications for admission. If you’re wondering which universities are open for applications, you may want to consider looking at what North-West University (NWU) can offer you. Our 2025 applications opened on 2 April and will close in early 2025. However, specific dates vary from course to course.

Whether you're a prospective undergraduate, postgraduate, or considering distance learning, NWU offers a diverse range of programmes tailored to suit your academic aspirations. Understanding the processes for each student category may assist you in getting a head start on your application process.

Undergraduate Applications

For prospective undergraduates, the application process involves several key steps. Firstly, applicants need to ensure they meet the minimum entry requirements for their chosen programme. These requirements typically include a National Senior Certificate (NSC) or an equivalent qualification and specific subject prerequisites, depending on the chosen field of study.

Application Procedure

The application procedure for undergraduates is straightforward and user-friendly. Prospective students can apply via the online application portal, which provides a step-by-step guide. Applicants must upload certified copies of their identification documents, academic transcripts, and other required documents.

Unique Requirements

Each undergraduate programme may have unique requirements, such as specific subject combinations or achievement levels in certain subjects.

Postgraduate Applications

Postgraduate studies cater to individuals seeking to further their qualifications and deepen their knowledge and expertise in their chosen field. The requirements for doctoral Honours, Master and PhD applications vary depending on the programme and level of study. Generally, applicants are expected to have a relevant undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification.

Application Procedure

Prospective postgraduate students can apply through the NWU website. The online application portal streamlines the process, allowing applicants to select their desired programme and submit the required documentation. This may include academic transcripts, a curriculum vitae (CV), letters of recommendation, and a research proposal for specific programmes.

Unique Requirements

Postgraduate programmes often have specific prerequisites, such as a minimum level of achievement or relevant work experience. Research-based programmes may require a detailed research proposal outlining the intended study. Each faculty within NWU has its own criteria, so applicants must carefully review the specific requirements for their chosen programme.

Distance Learning Programs

For those seeking flexibility and accessibility, NWU offers a range of distance learning programmes designed to accommodate students who may not be able to attend traditional on-campus classes. The requirements for distance learning programmes are similar to those for on-campus programmes, with the added benefit of flexibility in study schedules.

Application Procedure

The application process for distance learning programmes mirrors that of on-campus programmes, with the convenience of online applications. Prospective students can apply through the NWU website and submit the necessary documentation electronically.

Unique Requirements

Some of the unique aspects of distance learning are the emphasis on self-discipline, time management, access to a computer, a smartphone, and stable internet to receive and send information, as well as submitting assignments and assessments.

The timelines for distance learning second opportunity assessments will change as of 2024, as these assessments will no longer be written six months after the first assessment opportunity.

From 2024 onwards, NWU will also cease providing textbooks or physical and electronic study materials to newly enrolled students in the distance learning modality. Study guides will be accessible online, and each student will be responsible for purchasing their textbooks once they have registered.
